The bold eagle, which man's fear enshrouds,
Would, could he lodge it, house upon the clouds.

2004The name is Ernest Bradford. I have gone by several nicks over the years, "Brad", "Bones", "Ernie" are a few.

My first love has always been the world of aviation. Starting when I was fifteen years old, I flew airplanes for a total of about twenty-five years –  professionally, for twenty. And retired from aviation when I was forty-five.  Walking away from aviation was one of the hardest things I ever did.

Now retired from a second career, after sixteen years as an Industrial Automation Consultant, Designer, and Project Manager, I've embarked on yet a third professional career of writing novels. My only regret is that I didn't start writing for publication a lot sooner.

Other than writing, my days are filled with computers, reading, and the outdoors. I also occasionally help friends with repair and upgrade work around their homes. The Old Eagle is sixty-seven years old and nests in the mountains of northwestern South Carolina.

Good times for me are having close friends and family together for dinner, a good trail ride, and sleeping outdoors in the sweet air of this wonderful country. Seeing one of the rare Bald Eagles soaring over the wilderness surrounding my home, or listening to a wolf howling at the moon up in the ridges provide all the highs I need these days.   Though I am able to see them only rarely, my children and my brothers, and my home here, are my life these days.

About my writing...

I write in the "Action/Adventure" genre. Generally the settings are rural, forests, and wilderness areas, and the time periods are recent or contemporary.  All of my stories are based firmly in reality. Though plots and stories are fictional, most human activities in my stories are based in some way on personal experience, and characters portray real people doing things that are possible – no superhuman or invulnerable characters. Of course, my stories will usually include at least one major scene involving aviation and aircraft in some way. And always, in the struggle between right and wrong, good and evil, the good guys and gals will win, albeit with losses.  And though I favor happy endings, such is not always the case with my stories.

Welcome to my world....
